An Exhortation to Return to First Principles

What happens when churchmen speak like diplomats and presidents act like redeemers? You get division, confusion, and conflict.

In this video, Fr. Jason Charron argues that one of the great disorders of the modern world is this: popes are tempted to drop Jesus, and presidents are tempted to play messiah. The result is a weak Church, an inflated State, and a world pushed closer to fire.

This is not a partisan defense of Trump, nor a cheap attack on Pope Leo. It is a powerful prophetic call back to first principles. The Pope is not the chaplain of humanity. He is the representative of Jesus Christ on earth. The President is not a savior. He is a magistrate under judgment, charged with dignity, prudence, and the temporal common good.

A prophetic exhortation to the Church and politicians to return to their missions proper.

Evangelizing is in fact the grace and vocation proper to the Church, her deepest identity. She exists in order to evangelize, that is to say, in order to preach and teach, to be the channel of the gift of grace, to reconcile sinners with God, and to perpetuate Christ’s sacrifice in the Mass, which is the memorial of His death and glorious resurrection. —POPE ST. PAUL VI, Evangelii Nuntiandi, n. 14
