Crisis and Confusion

St. John Paul II was a prophet for our times, who framed the present spiritual battle as fulfilling the Book of Revelation:

This marvelous world — so loved by the Father that he sent his only Son for its salvation — is the theater of a never-ending battle being waged for our dignity and identity as free, spiritual beings. This struggle parallels the apocalyptic combat described in (Revelation 12). Death battles against Life: a “culture of death” seeks to impose itself on our desire to live, and live to the full. There are those who reject the light of life, preferring “the fruitless works of darkness” (Eph 5:11). Their harvest is injustice, discrimination, exploitation, deceit, violence…. —POPE JOHN PAUL II, Homily, Cherry Creek State Park Homily, Denver, Colorado, August 15th, 1993; vatican.va

In fact, while still a Cardinal, he defined the antagonists of this battle in precise terms:

We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel and the anti-Gospel, of Christ versus the anti-Christ… It is a trial… of 2,000 years of culture and Christian civilization, with all of its consequences for human dignity, individual rights, human rights and the rights of nations. —Cardinal Karol Wojtyla (JOHN PAUL II ), at the Eucharistic Congress, Philadelphia, PA; August 13, 1976; cf. Catholic Online (quote confirmed by Deacon Keith Fournier who was in attendance)

Peter Herbeck and Dr. Ralph Martin delve into these prescient words, and how they’re manifesting today… and what our response ought to be:
